Nairobi to Lake Baringo

Commencing your Kenyan safari, we extend a warm welcome as we pick you up from your Nairobi hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The journey unveils the scenic beauty of Limuru's tea farms, descending to the captivating Great Rift Valley. A pause at the escarpment viewpoint presents panoramic vistas of lakes, rivers, and arid plains, framing the striking Mount Longonot and the serene Lake Naivasha.

Continuing northward, we reach Lake Baringo, a jewel among the Rift Valley's freshwater lakes and a haven for bird enthusiasts boasting an impressive roster of over 500 bird species. Your lunch awaits at the Lake Baringo lodge or camp, where you'll be stationed. An enlightening evening bird walk along the lakeshore, guided by the resident ornithologist, unveils the vibrant avian world of this paradise.

Full day bird watching in Lake Baringo

After breakfast, go on a bird-watching trip by boat to one Baringo’s many rocky islands, where you’ll also spy pods of hippos and perhaps crocodiles and monitor lizards. We can organize a short excursion at an extra cost to visit a local Njemps village to watch traditional crafts being made and tribal dancing, or we can visit a local snake farm. Then we take an hour’s drive to nearby Lake Bogoria, which is a shallow soda lake that is home to thousands of lesser and greater pink flamingos that feed on the algae in the bluish water and make for wonderful photographs. Mammals sometimes encountered on the lakeshore include impala, dik-dik, zebra, Grant’s gazelle, warthog and the lesser kudu, and we also visit the scalding hot springs and geysers at the southern end of the lake that spurt and steam their alkaline waters. Return to our Lake Baringo camp/lodge for dinner and overnight.
