Tour Overview

Lewa Wildlife Conservancy offers a captivating blend of pastoral landscapes, encompassing vast plains, rolling hills, and dense forests. Originally established as a cattle ranch, it has since evolved into one of Kenya’s premier wildlife watching destinations. At the heart of the conservancy’s mission lies the protection of its diverse wildlife, with a particular focus on safeguarding its rhino population.

Throughout your safari experience, you’ll embark on thrilling game viewing drives aboard customized pop top 4×4 Safari Land Cruisers. These specially designed vehicles provide both safety and comfort, featuring open sides that offer unobstructed views of the surrounding wilderness. One of the key advantages of being in a private conservancy like Lewa is the ability to explore off the conventional tracks. Unlike national parks where off-road driving is prohibited, your knowledgeable guide can venture off the beaten path, allowing you to get even closer to the remarkable wildlife.

In addition to the exhilarating game drives, you’ll have ample time to unwind and immerse yourself in the scenic beauty of northern Kenya. Whether you choose to relax at a lodge or indulge in the luxury of a tented camp, you’ll have the opportunity to appreciate the serenity of the surroundings. Take in the breathtaking landscapes, rejuvenate your spirit, and create lasting memories as you savor the tranquility that northern Kenya has to offer.

Lewa Safari Camp

Sprawling over the rolling plains north of Mt Kenya, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is a prolific wildlife conservancy that is popular with celebrities, conservationists, writers and photographers

Visitors to Lewa are privy to some of the most spectacular wildlife viewing that Kenya has to offer: lion, leopard and jackal thrive on the rich diversity of prey that inhabits the area. The Wildlife Conservancy is home to the largest concentration of Grevy’s zebra in the world, and its range of habitats attracts diverse birdlife and hosts over 200 Black and White rhino.

Featuring large tented bedrooms with verandahs and full en-suite bathrooms, Lewa Safari camp offers authentic comfort for its visitors; cozy log fires in the sitting room are perfect for relaxing after a day in the Conservancy. This unique and exclusive retreat offers privileged access to 65,000 acres of private protected wilderness.

Underpinning the glamorous magnetism of Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is a serious mission: a pioneering and pragmatic approach to conservation, founded in the 1970’s, that has developed into a thriving and globally recognised rhino conservation habitat.

Lewa Safari Camp is the only tourist facility within the Conservancy that is owned by the Conservancy. Profits and conservancy fees generated by the camp are reinvested directly into the conservation and community efforts of Lewa Wildlife Conservancy.

Lewa Wilderness

Situated near the base of Mt. Kenya, which is Africa’s second tallest mountain, Lewa Wilderness is one of Kenya’s oldest and most private safari ventures.

The Craig family has passed down the lodge from one generation to the next. In addition, they passed down a distinct passion for wildlife, conservation and tourism. They proudly continue to run Lewa Wilderness Lodge and Walking Wild Camel Safaris. So this place is as much a home as it is a truly unique and personal safari experience.

By staying at Lewa Wilderness, guests are automatically supporting the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy and all of the conservation and community development efforts. The lodge has nine exclusive rooms. Rooms are located in six thatched cottages tucked into the hillside overlooking Lewa’s Eastern Marania Valley, and three thatched garden cottages set in the beautiful green lawns. Each cottage is tastefully decorated with some of the Craig’s own antique and handmade furniture. Therefore giving each room a rustic charm and the character of a ranch homestead.
