Nairobi – Karen Blixen, David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, Giraffe Center & Kazuri Bead Center
As the day begins with a refreshing coolness, we will promptly pick you up and set off for the Karen Blixen Museum. This historical site provides a glimpse into Kenya’s twentieth-century colonial period, as it was the former home of the renowned writer of “Out of Africa.” Immerse yourself in the fascinating era when the land served as a farm, gaining insights into Nairobi’s human history.
Continuing our journey, we venture towards the outskirts of the city to visit the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage. Here, the focus is on the gentle rehabilitation of baby elephants. Witness these adorable creatures as they feed and play during the designated one-hour viewing period. Please note that no elephant riding or performances take place at the orphanage. As you observe the elephants, you’ll even have the extraordinary opportunity to adopt one of these majestic animals.
For lunch, indulge in a hearty spread of local cuisine, energizing you for the next leg of our adventure. We then proceed to the Giraffe Centre Kenya, where sanctuary is provided for the highly endangered Rothschild giraffe. Learn about the organization’s dedicated efforts in rescue and breeding, as they strive to protect and preserve this magnificent species.
Concluding our day amidst the enchanting surroundings of Nairobi, we visit the Kazuri Bead Centre. Here, socially excluded women showcase their skills in crafting ceramic beads and pottery. This empowering center offers single mothers a dignified path towards self-sufficiency and personal growth. Don’t miss the opportunity to acquire unique jewelry and homeware, as you support these talented artisans.
At the conclusion of your Nairobi tour, we will transport you to your hotel or residence within the city.
Prepare for a day filled with history, natural wonders, and meaningful encounters, leaving you with lasting memories of Nairobi’s captivating charm.
