Embarking on a journey to conquer Mount Kenya, the second highest mountain in Africa, promises an exhilarating experience that will leave you with a sense of accomplishment. This tour offers a challenging yet manageable ascent up the former volcano, where you’ll stand atop one of its majestic peaks.
Starting from the lowlands of Mount Kenya National Park, your ascent will lead you through a mesmerizing transformation of landscapes and ecosystems. The itinerary for this remarkable adventure can be completed in just four days. However, we recommend taking an extra day for acclimatization, spending a night in Nanyuki upon arrival. Exploring the Highlands
Nairobi to Mount Kenya
(215 km – 3 to 4 hours driving, 10km – 3 to 4 hrs walking)
Your unforgettable Mount Kenya adventure begins at 07:30 am, where we'll pick you up from your hotel, residence, or even directly from the airport. The journey takes you north to the captivating highlands, where the magnificent Mount Kenya awaits. In Nanyuki town, a brief stop will allow your guide to ensure that all the necessary supplies for your expedition are in order.
Entering through the Sirimon gate, you'll step into the breathtaking Mount Kenya National Park. Take a moment to relax and savor a delicious picnic lunch, fortifying yourself for the upcoming hike. With renewed energy, you'll set out on your trek, covering a distance of 10 kilometers uphill. The path winds through the enchanting forested levels of the mountain, offering invigorating cool air and mesmerizing greenery throughout your ascent.
As nightfall approaches, you'll reach the Old Moses camp, nestled amidst the rugged terrain at an elevation of 3,300 meters above sea level. Here, you'll experience the charm of a quaint and basic campsite. A sumptuous dinner will be prepared to satiate your appetite, providing the perfect opportunity to rest and recharge for the exciting trekking and exploration that awaits you on the following day. Your first night's experience on Mount Kenya includes:

Old Moses – Shipton Camp
(14 km – 7 hours)
As the sun rises, your porters will ensure that breakfast is ready at the camp, providing you with the much-needed fuel for an adventurous day ahead, as you ascend higher towards the majestic Lenana Peak of this volcanic mountain. The morning's journey will lead you westwards, guiding you through captivating valleys and over challenging ridges, offering awe-inspiring scenery at every turn.
Traversing the Mackinder Valley, you'll encounter unique vegetation and scrublands, home to intriguing native creatures like the agile rock hyrax, playfully darting between rocks and boulders. Your knowledgeable guide will enhance your experience by pointing out interesting plants along the way, such as the ostrich plum lobelia and cabbage groundsel.
As the day draws to a close, you'll reach the Shipton camp, where your diligent porters will have arrived early to prepare warm drinks and delicious food for your arrival. At this point, you'll have attained an impressive altitude of 4,200 meters during your climb, and the captivating glaciers and rocky outcrops crowning the mountain will now be within your sight. Take the opportunity to rest and rejuvenate, for tomorrow holds a challenging day.
The second day of your trekking adventure in Kenya includes:

Shimpton Camp – Summit, to Old Moses Camp
(18.5 km – 11.5 hours)
‘’A Rewarding Descent"
Witnessing the sunrise above the horizon is a spectacular sight, but experiencing it from the lofty heights of Mount Kenya's peak is an extraordinary opportunity. On this special morning, you'll wake up at 2:30 am and enjoy a quick breakfast of tea and biscuits to fuel your journey. At 3 am, the ascent to the summit begins, as you navigate over loose rocks and frozen scree, surrounded by breathtaking glaciers.
The grand Lenana Peak awaits, ready to welcome you for your determination and efforts. The reward it offers is nothing short of breathtaking views, and on clear days, you may even catch a glimpse of Mount Kilimanjaro on the distant horizon. Reaching an impressive altitude of 4,985 meters, you'll take in the beauty and serenity from this elevated vantage point.
After the peak conquest, it's time to commence your descent. First, you'll return to the Shipton camp, where a more substantial breakfast awaits, allowing you to refuel before continuing your journey back down to the Old Moses camp.
The descent, aided by gravity, should take around 5 hours. As you descend, a sense of accomplishment will accompany you, knowing you've successfully reached the peak. At Old Moses camp, you'll once again find rest and comfort, relishing a well-deserved dinner as a reward for the day's extraordinary efforts.
The third day of your adventure trek in Kenya includes:

Old Moses – to Sirimon on Foot- Nairobi by Road
(10 km – 3 to 4 hrs walking, 215 km – 3 to 4 hours driving)
On your last morning, savor a delicious breakfast prepared at Old Moses camp, ensuring you're fueled up for the final leg of your tour. The descent begins from the mountain hut, guiding you through the enchanting forests and bamboo thickets you encountered on your ascent.
As you descend to lower altitudes, a refreshing surge of energy fills the air, thanks to the increasing oxygen levels and the return of a warm and brisk atmosphere. Your invigorating walk will lead you to the Sirimon Gate of Mount Kenya National Park, where your driver will be waiting to greet you.
Having completed your remarkable climb of Mount Kenya, your journey continues through the awe-inspiring Great African Rift Valley, showcasing the picturesque countryside of Kenya. Eventually, you'll arrive in Nairobi, the vibrant capital city. Once there, we are pleased to accommodate your preferences - whether you wish to be taken to your hotel or residence, or directly to the airport, depending on your onward plans.
This final day of your trekking safari in Kenya includes:
- No accommodation provided, as this marks the end of the tour.
